The radiator from a 1986-1988 Chevrolet Corvette (GM Part #52453612, Stealth Conversions
Part #S10-120) has nearly the same dimensions as the Volvo diesel and V-6
radiators, but the outlets are for the Chevrolet V-8. We prefer the Corvette radiator
for the following reasons:
- Lightweight. About 10 pounds.
- Very
efficient. The core is 1-3/8" thick and it has about 18 fins per inch.
The thin core design provides more room for a cooling fan.
- Readily available.
Can be purchased at any Chevrolet dealership.
- Inexpensive. Retail price is
about $300. Stealth Conversions sells it for about $235.
The Corvette radiator will fit in the Volvo 200 Series with a few simple brackets
and some minor metal trimming, which are shown in the Volvo
200 Series V-8 Conversion Manual. Be sure to get a genuine GM radiator,
because some of the aftermarket "replacement" radiators are not as good.
The GM radiator uses a patented fin design that other companies cannot use.
A genuine GM radiator will have "GM Harrison" on the tank on the passenger
side.
The Corvette radiator is equipped with a transmission oil cooler.
Be careful when buying a non-GM "Corvette" replacement radiator, because
some of the after-market "replacement" radiators are not as good as the genuine
Corvette radiator available from the Chevrolet dealer. Stealth Conversions sells
a high-quality Modine aftermarket radiator (Part #VOL-122) that performs as well as the genuine Chevrolet radiator for $150 including shipping.
Stealth Conversions sells Genuine Chevrolet
Corvette radiators (Part #VOL-120) for $195 including shipping . |
