STEALTH CONVERSIONS HEAVY-DUTY U-BOLTS

Stealth Conversions lowering kit uses U-bolts made specifically for the S-10, which are 9/16" diameter at the threads, and have extra-long nuts and extra-thick washers. The larger diameter U-bolts, and extra-long nuts resist stripping, and are far stronger than the 1/2" diameter "universal" U-bolts.

The factory U-bolts on an S-10 Truck are about 9/16" diameter at the threads (actually, they are metric), and about 6" long. The factory U-bolts are normally too short to be used with more than 1/2" of lowering blocks.

Most U-bolts that come with "universal lowering kits" are only 1/2" diameter at the threads. 1/2" diameter U-bolts are ok, but they don’t have a lot of reserve capacity, and often strip when re-tightened.

In addition, the "universal U-bolts" are  designed  for  3" diameter  axle  tubes, and  the  S-10 axle tubes are 2-3/4" diameter. The "universal" U-bolts can cause installation difficulties.

We have lowering kits available in a variety of widths, containing aluminum blocks, our own heavy durty u-bolts, and the needed nuts and washers. We also sell our heavy duty U-Bolts in sets of 4 with washers and nuts.

LOWERING BLOCKS — AND U-BOLTS THAT DON’T STAY TIGHT

Most aftermarket lowering blocks and U-bolts for the S-10 are not good enough quality to use on a V8 S-10, or even an S-10 with a stock engine. To reduce material costs, most "universal" lowering blocks are made from hollowed out aluminum casting or hollow extrusions. To reduce costs even more, the blocks are narrower than the spring. The hollow or extruded lowering blocks often fail by cracking, or by being crushed.

When the lowering blocks fail, the U-bolts go loose, and the rear axle can move around on the spring, causing the truck to lose control. Often, people blame the U-bolts for the failure, but the U-bolts are not the cause of the problem — the lowering blocks are the problem.

Another problem with many lowering blocks is that the lower locating hole is oversize, which means the axle may not line up properly.

The solid aluminum lowering block is the best lowering block to use on an S-10 Truck.

We have lowering kits available in a variety of widths, containing aluminum blocks, our own heavy durty u-bolts, and the needed nuts and washers. We also sell our heavy duty U-Bolts in sets of 4 with washers and nuts.
