The
stock Camaro oil pan will not clear the front axle/differential on the 4x4
V-8 swap. A special oil pan is required, unless you are using a lift kit that
relocates the front differential.
The Stealth Conversions oil pan (on the
right, above #S10-110, $250, including shipping) is chamfered on the driver's side (arrow), just like the oil
pan on the 4.3 V-6 4x4. This will give the proper clearance between the front
differential and the oil pan, while keeping the engine low enough for transmission
tunnel clearance and hood clearance.
The oil pan on the left is typical
of some of the V-8 4x4 oil pans currently on the market. It is not chamfered,
which requires the engine to be mounted higher than the Stealth Conversions oil
pan. The non-chamfered pans require more transmission tunnel modifications, and
can cause hood clearance problems with the large diameter engine-driven fan required
for adequate cooling. Also, the Corvette LT1 offset oil filter adapter will not
fit, because of its width at the rear.
Additionally, the oil pan on the
left uses a nut welded to the inside of the pan for the drain plug. The height
of the nut allows 1/2 quart of oil to remain in the pan during oil changes.
