High-Performance 4.3 V6 Replacement Mounts for S-10 Trucks and Blazers

Part # S10-4.3HP for 2WD

Part # S10-4.3HP for 4x4 and all-wheel-drive S10 Trucks and Blazers.

The stock S10 4.3 V6 engine mounts use large, soft rubber isolators to reduce engine vibrations that go into the cab of the S10 trucks. The soft rubber isolators are not well suited for performance applications because they allow too much engine movement, which can lead to problems with headers contacting the frame and the steering shaft, as well as axle hop problems.

Because the stock 4.3 V6 mounts are made from rubber bonded to steel, the mounts often fail, with the rubber tearing away from the steel, and allowing the engine to contact the hood. The fan can also contact the fan shroud, damaging the fan and shroud.

Stealth Conversion's high-performance 4.3 V6 mount assembly uses a Chevrolet 2.8 V6 S-10 replacement mount (part # S10-106), and the JTR 2.8 to 4.3 V6 conversion mount (part # S10-109).

The mount assembly is stiffer than the stock S10 4.3 V6 mounts, but is soft enough to be used on street driven vehicles without transmitting excessive noise and vibration into the truck. The 2.8 V6 replacement mount has the rubber surrounded by steel. This mount is the most common mount to use in the S-10 V8 swap -- it has proven itself to be strong enough for even the most powerful V8’s, yet compliant enough to prevent noise and vibration from entering the cab.

This kit will bolt directly into most S-10 trucks and Blazers with the 4.3 V6, using the original mounting holes on the S-10 frame, and on the 4.3 V6 engine. Note: This kit will not work on ZR2 trucks.

High-performance replacement mounts
for S-10 Trucks and Blazers with 4.3 V6

The S10-4.3 HP and S10-4.3HP4x4 replacement mount kits include:

  1. 2.8 V6 replacement mounts (part # S10-106), which bolt to the S10 frame.

  2. 2.8 V6 to 4.3 V6 steel adapter brackets (part # S10-109), which bolt to the engine.
These have slotted mounting holes to adjust the engine position (if needed) to accommodate driveline changes on lowered vehicles. On trucks that have been lowered with angled lowering blocks, it may be necessary to shorten the driveshaft. These mounts allow moving the engine/transmission forward up to 3/8" to eliminate the need to shorten the driveshaft on lowered vehicles.

Comparison of Corvette motor mount to 2.8 V6 mount

The 2.8 V6 mount is very similar to the mount used in the 1984-1991 Corvette. They both use rubber isolators surrounded by a steel shell. The Corvette mount will not bolt to the S-10 frame, because the mounting holes are slightly different.

The 2.8 V6 style rubber isolator is also used in stock 4.3 V6 Astro Vans. The reason we mention this is because these mounts are designed for the 4.3 V6 and are soft enough to keep the 4.3 V6 S-10 smooth and quiet in the S-10 application.

Recently, the prices at Chevrolet have gone up quite a bit for 2.8 V6 rubber isolators, which now retail for over $110 each. That’s $220/pair, which is more than most people are willing to spend.

The aftermarket 2.8 V6 rubber isolators can normally be purchased at auto parts stores for about $30/pair. They are good quality, and are slightly stiffer than the stock Chevrolet 2.8 V6 mounts. The aftermarket 2.8 V6 rubber isolators are similar in stiffness to the Corvette rubber isolator.

Polyurethane Mounts

If you want to use polyurethane mounts, you can use the polyurethane inserts for the Chevrolet brand 2.8 V6 mounts (part # S10-107). However these will not fit into the aftermarket 2.8 V6 steel shell (shown on the right) -- they will only fit in the Chevrolet 2.8 V6 steel shell (center).

The lowest cost way to use polyurethane mounts is to purchase the 2.8 to 4.3 V6 adapter mounts (S10-109), the polyurethane inserts (S10-107), and get the Chevrolet 2.8 V6 style of mount from a wrecking yard. The 2.8 V6 style of mount came on the following vehicles:1985-2005 Astro Vans with the 4.3 V6, 1982-1993 S-10's with the 2.8 V6, and the 1982-1992 Camaro's with the 2.8 V6 and 3.1 V6.

As a word of caution, the polyurethane mounts are very stiff, and transmit a noticeable amount of vibration into the truck. We do not recommend the polyurethane inserts on 4.3 V6 trucks and Blazers that are used as commuter vehicles.
